North East Museums has been shortlisted for the Power In Practice Award at the National Arts and Cultural Education Awards 2026.
The National Arts and Cultural Education Awards hosted by Curious Minds shine a light on best practice and innovation in the field of creative and cultural learning, wherever it is happening across the country.
The awards celebrate the incredible, passionate people – teachers, teaching artists and creative practitioners, youth and social workers, health and wellbeing specialists and community volunteers – who are working to improve young lives by breaking down barriers to engagement with arts and culture.
North East Museums has been shortlisted along with five other cultural venues for the Power In Practice Award category. Take a look at the shortlist.
This year the Awards will take place on 21 October 2026 at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
North East Museums engages over 163,000 children and young people annually through a diverse, place-based learning programme across 12 venues. Our work addresses regional barriers including low cultural engagement, economic inequality, rural isolation, and access needs for SEND learners.
We deliver curriculum-linked workshops across art, STEM, history and heritage, working with schools, home educators, further and higher education and alternative provision. Our programmes include the Linking Project, connecting pupils from different backgrounds to explore identity and belonging, and Cultural Match, where teachers and creative practitioners co-design projects to build cultural capital and embed creativity in the curriculum.
We also provide support for priority groups, including young people experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and those in areas of high deprivation.
