School and home learners are invited to take part in four days of free virtual sessions exploring Hadrian's Wall and Roman life on the frontier.
Hosted annually by the Great North Museum: Hancock and running from Tuesday 24 to Friday 27 November 2026, ‘Hadrian’s Wall Live’ brings together organisations from the Hadrian's Wall Learning & Engagement network, including Segedunum Roman Fort, English Heritage, Vindolanda Trust, Tullie Museum and Art Gallery, Binchester Roman Fort, Northumberland National Park, Newcastle University, Durham University, the Open University, Classics for All and Historic Environment Scotland, to deliver virtual sessions designed for KS2 students.
During the event, learners will have the opportunity to hear from engaging speakers about topics such as daily Roman life, inscriptions, language, hoards, and the conservation of Hadrian’s Wall.
Sessions include:
- Bathing at the Frontier, with Segedunum Roman Fort
- Counting on Hadrian's Wall, with Newcastle University
- What does Hadrian’s Wall have to do with the English language? More than you might think!, with Classics for All: North East
- Find out what a working archaeologist gets up to along Hadrian’s Wall, with Vindolanda Trust
- Decoding Roman Inscriptions from Hadrian's Wall, with Classics for All: East Midlands and Roman Inscriptions of Britain online
- Caring for Hadrian’s Wall, with Northumberland National Park
- Mystery of the Lanchester Diploma, with Durham University Museums
Morgan Fail, Learning Coordinator at Great North Museum: Hancock, said: “We’re really excited to host Hadrian’s Wall Live for the fifth year in a row, giving young people the opportunity to learn from experts. We welcomed over 19,000 attendees in 2025, and we hope to welcome many more in 2026.”
Sessions take place between 9.30am and 1.45pm each day. Learners can attend individual sessions or take part in all four days. Home learners and children outside traditional school settings are very welcome.
