About
Join us to discover this building's interesting (and rather grim) history. Have a look around, find out more about the poor inmates’ daily chores and their bleak diet.
Due to the nature of the building, only the ground floor of the House of Correction is accessible to wheelchair users. The tour guide will have a folder of information and photographs of the first floor of the building.
The tour of the House of Correction is suitable for older children.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Hexham Old Gaol and on the tour, but please be considerate of the other visitors on the tour.
Hexham Old Gaol is offering free tours of The House of Correction Tour as part of Heritage Open Days. If you also visit Hexham Old Gaol usual admission charges apply.
Spaces are limited, so you need to book in advance. To give more people a chance to join, each person can only attend the tour once during the available dates. You can book up to 4 free tickets. If you can’t make it, please let us know.
