Admission to Hexham Old Gaol applies.

Tour will last approximately 45 minutes and includes a 15 minute walk to the House of Correction from Hexham Old Gaol.

The House of Correction in Hexham is a remarkable building, usually closed to the public. Join us to discover this building's interesting (and rather grim) history. 

Have a look around, find out more about the poor inmates’ daily chores and their bleak diet. The tour will start from Hexham Old Gaol and will last approximately 45 minutes, including a 15 minute walk between Hexham Old Gaol and the House of Correction. 

Due to the nature of the building, the tour is unfortunately not accessible to wheelchair users as there is a small step into the building, narrow doorways and stairs to the first floor.

The tour of the House of Correction is suitable for older children. 

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Hexham Old Gaol and on the tour, but please be considerate of the other visitors on the tour. 

Hexham Old Gaol is offering free tours of The House of Correction Tour as part of Heritage Open Days.Usual admission charges apply if you also visit Hexham Old Gaol.  

Spaces are limited, so you need to book in advance. To give more people a chance to join, each person can only attend the tour once during the available dates. You can book up to 4 free tickets. If you can’t make it, please let us know.
