You don’t need to buy a ticket in advance. You can buy your ticket from the Entrance Hut on the day of your visit. We accept cash and card payments throughout the site.
Your ticket is an Annual Pass, which allows you to enjoy unlimited repeat visits for the next 12 months.
If you gift an Annual Pass, it isn’t activated until their first visit to us.
You can buy a day admission in our online shop and convert it to an Annual Pass on your next visit to Woodhorn Museum.

The Winding House Café is located on the Ground Floor of the main Cutter Building. We serve a range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, scones, cakes and snacks.
The Café is open:
Wednesday to Sunday, 10.30am - 3.30pm (last food orders, 2.30pm)
Open daily during Northumberland school holidays.
You can also bring a picnic with you, and there are plenty of picnic tables available around the site. You are welcome to eat your picnic in the outdoor seating area next to the café which has a retractable canopy.
You can find our gift shop on the ground floor of the main Cutter Building, opposite the Welcome Desk. You’ll find a range of high quality gifts, books, homeware, art and toys inspired by our collections and Northumberland’s stories.

There are toilets and standard accessible toilets located on both floors of the Cutter Building, the Tourist Information point in the car park, and there is a standard accessible toilet in the Workshop galleries.
Baby changing facilities are in the Changing Places toilet on the Upper Ground Floor of the main Cutter Building and the Workshop galleries.
A Changing Places toilet is located on the Upper Ground Floor of the Cutter Building.
The Changing Places toilet is also a certified Stoma Friendly toilet.
There is a long indoor access ramp between the upper and lower ground floors hung with iconic miner banners.
Breastfeeding is welcomed throughout the site.
If you would like a private space, please ask a member of the Visitor Experience team who will be able to help.
Assistance dogs are always welcome and can accompany their owner everywhere at Woodhorn Museum.
We also welcome well behaved family dogs.
Water bowls are provided in the car park and outside of the main Cutter Building.

We're located just off the A189 Coastal Route, east of Ashington, Northumberland. It's approximately a 25-minute drive from Newcastle in the south, and Alnwick in the north.
If you're planning to use a sat nav, our postcode will take you to the wrong location. Please follow the brown and white tourist signs for the museum which will take you to the museum entrance.

Free parking is available to all our visitors.
The car park closes at 4.30pm. Please ensure that your vehicle is removed from the car park before the gates are closed. If your vehicle is locked in, please call Northumberland County Council on 0345 600 6400. Please note, it may not be possible to release your vehicle until the next working day.

Our car park is split into two areas - a tarmacked area to the right of the museum, which is best for visitors with mobility needs, wheelchairs, pushchairs and buggies. The car park is a short distance from the museum site, with a level concrete path leading to the main Cutter Building.
There are five blue badge spaces available on the tarmacked area.
Please note that on busy event days the tarmacked area is reserved for accessible parking only.
On the left of the museum is a larger gravelled parking area.
The car park is well lit with lighting at both high and ground level.
If required, we do allow drop off and pick up closer to the museum entrance for visitors with mobility needs. As the museum site is pedestrianised, this must be arranged in advance by telephoning (0191) 277 2410 or speaking to the Visitor Experience Assistant at the Entrance Hut.
It is an approximately 25—30 minute walk to the museum from Ashington Train Station and Ashington Bus Station.
Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Ashington Train Station or Bus Station. Phoenix Taxis offer accessible taxis which you can book in advance by calling 01670 817900. Please mention your access requirements when you book.
We're located just off the C1 National Cycle Route and the Coasts and Castles Cycle Route.
Bicycle racks are available for cyclists. You can borrow a lock from the Entrance Hut when you arrive.
For the safety of all our visitors, cycling is not allowed within the museum site.
Arriva operates the number X21 bus service from Newcastle Haymarket Bus Station to Ashington Bus Station. This takes approximately one hour.
Arriva operates the number 35 bus service from Morpeth Bus Station to Ashington Bus Station. This takes approximately 19 minutes.
Arriva operates the number X20 bus service from Alnwick Bus Station to Ashington Bus Station. This takes approximately one hour.

During the school holidays, kids go free! Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the bus when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. Learn more on the North East Combined Authority website.
