STEM Person of the Week

a postcard with a picture of Rachel Parsons wearing a hat

STEM Person of the Week is a week, teacher-led intervention that supports schools in integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths careers into lessons. It helps add real-world context to lessons, and focuses on the attributes needed in a role rather than the academic route to get there. Each set covers a diverse range of careers, people and characteristics which are designed to counter stereotypical perceptions of STEM.

Each downloadable set below contains five postcards with a different person featured. To run a five week intervention, a different person from the set would be introduced at the start of the week and their key characteristics highlighted. Then, throughout the week, reflect back and see if you and your class have used any of the characteristics yourself. This helps students to see similarities between themselves and the people featured.

STEM Person of the Week was developed by NUSTEM at Northumbria University. These sets were created in collaboration as part of a partnership between our museums and NUSTEM as part of the Our Past, Your Future and Union Chain Bridge projects. More information about NUSTEM and STEM person of the Week can be found on the NUSTEM website
