About

Explore the stories of working underground at Woodhorn and collieries like it through the museum's collections and objects. Discover how the site operated, the different roles miners carried out, and the daily dangers they faced underground. You'll also have the opportunity to handle real objects used by miners.

We're always interested in hearing your memories and stories too, so come along and share your own knowledge of our coalmining past.

This tour takes place mostly within the Coal Town exhibition. It is suitable for both children and adults, although visitors will encounter low light levels, unexpected noises and flashing lights in some areas.

Please let the member of staff leading the tour know if there is anything they can do to adapt the experience for you. We ask that children are supervised at all times.

If you would like to chat about whether this tour is suitable for you or your family or group members, please speak to a member of staff or contact us on (0191) 277 2410.
