About

Join us at Woodhorn Museum for our next Home Educator day on Thursday 20 November.

Book a workshop to take part in with your child and explore the Museum for the rest of the day for free!

While you’re here, why not relax in our café with a hot drink and take part in free activities at our mini museum stations.

Our bookable workshop prices are £4 per child per workshop (£6 with optional donation) and accompanying adults are free.

Spaces are limited and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Workshops will be led by members of our Learning Team.

Our bookable workshops are:

Footsteps of a Northumbrian Soldier (WW1)
10:15 - 11:15

Learn how we use historical documents to follow the journey of a Northumbrian soldier during World War I from enlistment to the end of his life.

We will also find out about the roles of other Northumbrians during the war and handle some objects our soldier would have carried.

This workshop contains images and content that some people might find distressing. Recommended for young people working at age 11+

Heritage crafts: Learn to proggy
11.30 - 12.30

Discover how people of the past made the most of the materials available to them by reusing old textiles. Learn basic proggy mat making techniques and start your own sample piece to take home.

This workshop needs some manual dexterity and is good practice for fine motor skills. Recommended age 6+

Pitmen Painters sensory art session
13:15 – 14:15

This session has been developed to explore the Pitmen Painters art gallery in new ways. We will guide you to use all your senses to explore the gallery as well as trying out some art and mark making techniques.

Recommended for young people working aged 4+.
