To celebrate Heritage Open Days 2025, we are opening our doors for a special day of free entry and activities.

Drop-in events throughout the day:

Northumberland Archives
Escape Room Van in the Pit Yard 

Can you decipher an 18th century document and unpick its secrets? The Archive Service needs you! Use your powers of deduction to help the Archives team crack the codes, unlock the puzzles and deduce the answers.

Northumbrian Lace Makers
Northern Rock Gallery 

The Northumbria Lacemakers are a group promoting lacemaking throughout the North East of England. Come along and meet the group, see lacemaking demonstrations and even have a go yourself!

Mining banner conservation
Northern Rock Gallery

Woodhorn Museum is home to most of Northumberland's historic mining banners. Some of them are currently being conserved, so that they can continue to be displayed and enjoyed for future generations. 

Come and meet textiles conservator Laurie Endean-Olsen as she works on repairing and preserving the North Walbottle mining banner - one of the oldest banners in the Woodhorn Museum collection.
