About
Celebrate the northern custom of first-footing by creating your own coal gem to hold your warm wishes for the new year.
Make and decorate your own paper coal gem then add your wishes for the new year inside. You can add your first-footing gem to a growing art installation or take it home to keep.
This activity is suitable for all ages and abilities and one of our friendly staff members will be on hand to help. Come along to relax, reflect and get creative over the festive period.
The First-Footing Coal Gem activity and installation was created by artist Bethan Maddocks and is supported by Northumberland County Council and Arts Council England.
