For your 4 activity slots, you will have 1 workshop and 3 teacher-led activities.
Monday 9 March - Adaptation & Evolution day Y6*-Y11
Year 6-8 groups can choose from these workshops:
Under the Lens (Newcastle University’s Cell Detectives)
Explore the microscopic world of biology and marvel at the intricate details of life. Students will also have the opportunity to build their own LEGO microscope.
Secrets of the Nervous System (Newcastle University’s Cell Detectives)
Dive into the complexities of human biology and unravel the captivating story of Phineas Gage.
Year 9-11 groups can choose from these workshops:
Extraordinary Evolution (Newcastle University's Science Outreach team)
The brain game (Newcastle University's Science Outreach team)
Secrets of the Nervous System (Newcastle University’s Cell Detectives)
Dive into the complexities of human biology and unravel the captivating story of Phineas Gage.
The rest of the day is made up of: lunch (1 slot), change & adapt trail with objects to find, tasks to do and people to meet (2 slots), planetarium (cost incurred) or teacher-led activity/gallery exploration (1 slot).
*also open to mixed Year 5/6 classes with a 2-year curriculum cycle.
Tuesday 10 March - Animals & Zoology day Y3-11
Year 3-8 groups will have this workshop:
Hoot-Worthy Science: Owls (Natural History Society of Northumbria) Learn about these amazing creatures from local naturalists and have a go at dissecting an owl pellet!
Year 9-11 groups will have this workshop:
Zoological discoveries (Newcastle University's Science Outreach team)
The rest of the day is made up of: lunch (1 slot), change & adapt trail with objects to find, tasks to do and people to meet (2 slots), planetarium (cost incurred) or teacher-led activity/gallery exploration (1 slot).
Wednesday 11 March - Psychology day Y3-7
Science Adventures (Newcastle University's School of Psychology)
Learn about developmental psychology and get involved in real research projects. Takes up 2x45 minutes on your timetable.
The rest of the day is made up of: lunch (1 slot), change & adapt trail with objects to find and tasks to do (1 slots), planetarium (cost incurred) or teacher-led activity/gallery exploration (1 slot).
