This exhibition is centred around Odysseus and his journey home to the island of Ithaca.
After winning the Trojan War, the Greek heroes sailed home, but Odysseus' return to his kingdom and his wife Penelope was the most difficult of all. On this journey he encountered many challenges, including the one-eyed Cyclops, the sorceress Circe, the nymph Calypso and the irresistible song of the Sirens.
On display are Greek and Etruscan objects from the Shefton Collection featuring Sirens, including a carved ostrich egg, and a perfume pot in the shape of a Siren. There's also a replica Greek warship, and a 19th century vase with a representation of the sack of Troy by the Greeks.
The exhibition was produced in collaboration with colleagues from Newcastle University.
