About

Make and Take

Today is all about animals: big animals, small animals and animals made from recycled materials. There will be a brilliant activity for you to take part in where you can transform yourself into an animal using only cardboard and other recycled materials. Do you want to be a tranquil turtle, a powerful parrot or sophisticated snail? Take time to make and decorate your costume and then see if you can blend in with the animals on display!

Show and Share

The highlight of this day is a chance to meet some real birds of prey on our front lawn who have come to meet you from Durham Falconry Ltd. Come and meet these majestic birds and learn lots of fun facts about how they eat, sleep and play.

Tales and Trails

After a busy morning of making, treat yourself to an animal trail around the museum inspired by all the animals seen in the Lindisfarne Gospels (which you can see at the Laing Art Gallery in September 2022).

Ways to Play

Make your Ways to Play adventure a great value day out by travelling to our venues by the Metro, Ferry or Bus.

Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry with a fare-paying adult. Metro is the convenient, fast and frequent way to get to your favourite attractions and now it’s even more affordable.

Up to three kids aged 11 and under can travel for free on bus services operated by Arriva North East, Go North East or Stagecoach this summer.

Ways to Play is sponsored by Tyne and Wear Metro.
