24 July - Egg Carton Flowers
Create beautiful flowers using egg cartons.

31 July - Plant and Flower Suncatcher
Using natural materials , create a suncatcher to put in your window.

7 August - Garden Wind Spinner
Create your own wind spinner for the garden using wire and beads.
Please note change of time: 11am - 2pm

14 August - Bee a Nature Detective and Build a Bug
Go on a nature hunt for bugs in the fort grounds then draw what you find or invent your own bug!

21 August - Wildflower Seed Bombs
Make a wildflower seed bomb using recycled paper to take away and plant in your own garden.

28 August - Decorate a Roman Altar
Taking inspiration from nature, decorate an altar using pastels. Please note: a real altar will not be used, but one made from card.


These events are part of our Ways to Play programme of free and low-cost family-friendly activities.

Make your Ways to Play adventure a great value day out by travelling to our venues by the Metro and / or Ferry.  

Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry with a fare-paying adult. Metro is the convenient, fast and frequent way to get to your favourite attractions and now it’s even more affordable.
