About
Stephenson Story Home Educator Session:
10.30am - 12 noon
Explore the stories of George and Robert Stephenson and the impact of their work in developing the railways. Children will take part in an interactive story, using a textile version of Stephenson’s Rocket. Children will see and discover more about Stephenson’s locomotive ‘Killingworth Billy’, the third oldest surviving locomotive in the world. Inspired by the Stephensons, children will develop their engineering skills through observational drawing, then try to create their own train design.
This session is aimed at Early Years children from age 4 to 6. We ask that parents are responsible for children on their visits and accompany the children on the visit.
We suggest that younger siblings aren’t in attendance, except for babes in arms. This is due to room capacity.
Explore our Woodland Walk Home Educator Session:
1pm - 2pm
Develop your engineering skills in this workshop.
Inspired by the work of George and Robert Stephenson, children will explore materials used in train design and carry out an experiment to test the best shape for train wheels.
We suggest that younger siblings aren’t in attendance, except for babes in arms.
