Facilities

Café 

Open on selected days during the running season, the Waggonway Tearoom offers hot and cold drinks, soups and sandwiches, homemade cakes and seasonal treats.


Gift shop 

There is a gift shop selling a range of souvenirs, books and railway memorabilia. It is located on the left just inside the entrance to the main museum display area.

Toilets and baby changing 

There are toilets and a standard accessible toilet with baby changing in the main entrance. 
The nearest Changing Places toilet is in Rising Sun Country Park, Whitley Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 9SS. 


Access

The museum is all on one level.


Breastfeeding 

Breastfeeding is welcomed anywhere at the museum. 
Seating and water can be provided for nursing, please ask a member of staff.

Stephenson Steam Railway is one and a half miles away from Percy Main by Metro. 

You can make your visit an even greater value day out by travelling to Discovery Museum by Metro. Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. 

You can save on adult fares too by using Pop Pay As You Go. Save up to £1 on single tickets and up to £1.60 on day tickets. 

Those who are 21 and under can get around for just £1 on single fare bus, Metro and Shields Ferry journeys, and for £3 all day. Plan your journey in advance and track your Metro in real time with the Pop app. Search 'Pop Nexus' in the Play Store or the App Store.

By bus

The number 19 bus service goes from Percy Main Metro Station to Cobalt South, a four minute walk to the museum. 
The number 42 bus service goes from Wallsend Metro Station to Cobalt South, a four minute walk to the museum. 
The number 310 bus service goes from Haymarket Bus Station to Cobalt South, a four minute walk to the museum. 


By car 

The museum is well signposted from the A19/A1058 junction and is behind the Silverlink Retail Park, adjacent to the Blyth & Tyne cycle route.


Car parking 

There is a free car park at the museum.
