About
Socialising and connecting with others is important. Going to a museum and meeting new people can make you feel happier and healthier. It can also improve your mental health and wellbeing.
Our Museum Socials have free tea, coffee and refreshments on the go; themed drop-in activities with artists, informal tours of new and permanent displays, collection highlights and museum staff on hand for a warm welcome and friendly chat.
South Shields Museum & Art Gallery has been selected as one of just four partners to host the National Gallery’s Masterpiece Tour, a three-year transformative opportunity to bring world-class art to the North East.
In early 2026, the museum will exhibit Monet’s masterpiece, The Petit Bras of the Seine at Argenteuil (1872), which has only left the National Gallery once in the past 20 years. There’ll be an opportunity to take a look at the masterpiece as part of the Museum Social.
All Museum Socials are free and for everyone.
