About the activities

Try your hand at family-friendly activities inspired by our collections, all summer long.

22 July - Exploring Archaeology Find out what archaeologists do with objects they find in the ground. Have a go at finding, sorting and recording your precious finds.

29 July - Design a Badge People in the past often had their own seal so that others knew who something was from. Design and make your own badge that is unique to you.

5 August - Create your own piece of Hadrian's Wall  Explore our Roman Gallery to look for Roman patterns, Latin names and text. Collect them in your own sketchbook before using them to help you to emboss your own piece of Hadrian’s Wall.

12 August - Make your own jewellery Explore our Roman Gallery to see examples of Roman jewellery.  Use this as inspiration to design and create your own piece of jewellery.

19 August - Writing  Though Time Writing has long since been used as a method to communicate. Come and have a go at writing Egyptian hieroglyphics, Ancient Greek or Latin.

26 August - Become a Roman God or Goddess for the day Romans worshipped different gods and goddesses. You can often identify Roman gods and goddesses by the things they carry or wear. Try making your own Roman god or goddess crown and staff.
