Most suitable for primary children age 6 + and their families. 

Brought to the museum in a partnership with The National Archives.

In each Time Travel Club event families can be inspired by historical material from The National Archives in a creative and interesting way with hands-on craft, designing and problem solving. 

Thursday 30 July - Across Land, Sea & Sky
Weird and wonderful ways of getting around! Discover some of the more unusual methods of transport used by people in the Victorian and Edwardian eras including Penny Farthing bicycles, zebra-drawn carriages and hot air balloons. Create your own mini Penny Farthing bicycle and race it against your friends and family.

Thursday 13 August – Ready for Take Off
Explore photographs of early flying machines from The National Archives then have a go at building and testing your own flying machines using the craft materials provided.

Thursday 20 August – from Steam Power to Green Power 
Explore the importance of steam power during the Industrial Revolution then think about more environmentally friendly energy sources. Have a go at testing out different wind turbine designs.

Thursday 27 August – Crack the Code
How did Mary Queen of Scots write secret messages? How did World War II spies pass on information? Explore documents from The National Archives to find out about codes and cyphers then create your own secret message and see if your family can crack the code.
