About

A 90 minute art class for accompanied 7 - 12 year olds led by artist Steph. You'll learn artistic techniques and each session has a different theme.

Themes for summer sessions are:

  • 30 July - Koi Pond: Use regular and shimmer watercolours to paint a calm pond. Add oil pastel details to complete your peaceful watery scene. Learn origami techniques and fold a beautiful koi fish from a piece of paper. Craft with paper and card to make water-lillies. This activity combines painting, drawing and origami.
  • 6 August - Orchid Craft: Learn papercraft techniques to create a stunning orchid picture. Decorate your botanical artwork with watercolour paints. This activity combines painting, cutting and collage.
  • 20 August - My Summer Snaps: Draw your favourite summer memories and create a cardboard camera with a paper film-reel of your highlights. Your drawings will be on a strip of paper that can be pulled through the camera, to create an interactive craft. This activity combines sculpting, drawing, crafting and illustrating.

This class is a great opportunity to enjoy creative family time together. Children will work with their adult to create a shared piece to take home.

Our artist has extensive experience of working with young people including those with SEND and Neurodiversities. We understand that some young people may be older than 12 but find the class age appropriate due to SEND - please contact Hannah.Mackay-Jackson@northeastmuseums.org.uk if this applies to you.

These sessions will be designed to be welcoming and inclusive for all.

This event is part of our Ways to Play programme of free and low-cost family-friendly activities.
