About
We're celebrating 25 years of The Big Draw with the theme ‘Drawn Together’. This event is all about coming together to draw and be creative in fun and surprising ways!
Suitable for all ages and abilities - you don't need to be 'good at drawing'!
Activities happening on the day include:
- Playful Monsters: Sculpt your own plasticine monster. Roll a dice to decide which features to add, and create a monster that's funny, silly or scary to take home.
- Spiral Carpets: Join together small squares of colourful paper, to create a large decorative spiral carpet.
- Big Floor Draw: Enjoy drawing on long rolls of paper spread across the gallery floor. Draw from your imagination, or follow the drawing prompts for ideas. The floor draw will remain in the gallery for the duration of the event and grow as people add to it.
- Collage Creations: Cut-and-stick to create a collage of an imagined Gateshead. Be inspired by Brutalist architecture to create your own urban scene to take home.
- Exquisite Corpse Game (Consequences): Have fun with this collaborative drawing game, enjoyed by Surrealist artists of the 1920s and 1930s. Take it in turns to add to the drawing without seeing the whole page; then unfold to reveal a surreal drawing to take home.
- Zine Making: A zine is a self published booklet or pamphlet. Using just a few pieces of paper and a range of drawing materials, you will create own zine to read or share. Zines can be funny, quirky or serious - it's up to you! Take your zine home or pass it on to someone.
Event run by North East Art Teacher Network - a network of artist educators who have been involved in creating Big Draw opportunities for 10 years.
Free refreshments will be provided at the event, sponsored by Ringtons.
