About

Art and poetry have always seemed to go hand in hand, but for the Pre-Raphaelites this concept was extended and developed in ways which have changed the way we ‘read’ art and ‘view’ poetry. This talk will explore how the ‘space between’ these two forms has been developed and shaped by Pre-Raphaelite artists as they produced works inspired by literature.

This sit-down illustrated talk will last for around 50 minutes, after which there will be an opportunity to ask questions.  It will be held in the Laing Art Gallery's function room. The talk relates to the exhibition Pre-Raphaelites: Art and Poetry at the Laing Art Gallery.

Serena Trowbridge is Professor of Pre-Raphaelite Studies at Birmingham City University, and Chair of the Pre-Raphaelite Society. Her work focuses on the writing and art of Pre-Raphaelite women.
