About

William and Julie are an acoustic folk music duo specialising in traditional tunes and songs from the North East of England and beyond. William plays guitar, lute, and bodhran, and Julie plays the fiddle and whistles. Their repertoire comprises of music dating from the Middle Ages to the present day.

To complement the Laing's current exhibition Pre-Raphaelites: Art and Poetry, William and Julie have put together a selection of tunes from the Medieval (c.1050-1400) and Renaissance (c.1400-1600) eras, which inspired the artists and poets featured in the exhibition. The duo will also include some popular tunes from the 1800s, which may have been whistled cheerfully by members of the Pre-Raphaelite movement as they engaged in their everyday activities.

There may, in addition, be a little nod towards the upcoming festive season.
