Café 

Café facilities are available at the nearby Great North Museum: Hancock. 


Gift shop 

Our shop sells a range of books, cards, gifts and jewellery. You can also visit our Online Shop.


Toilets and baby changing

There is a standard accessible toilet opposite the main gallery exhibition space. 

The nearest Changing Places toilet is in Newcastle University’s Daysh Building on the ground floor. It is accessible by radar key and can be accessed out of hours by contacting the University Security Service on (0191) 208 6817.  

Newcastle University’s Daysh Building is on Claremont Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU and is a two-minute walk from the museum. 


Lifts

The gallery entrance is opposite Northern Stage.
Access through this entrance is via a lift or stairs. All public areas of the gallery have level access.


Breastfeeding 

Breastfeeding is welcomed throughout the gallery.

Hatton Gallery is a five minute walk from Haymarket on the Metro.

You can make your visit an even greater value day out by travelling to Hatton Gallery by Metro. Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.  

You can save on adult fares too by using Pop Pay As You Go. Save up to £1 on single tickets and up to £1.60 on day tickets. 

Those who are 21 and under can get around for just £1 on single fare bus, Metro and Shields Ferry journeys, and for £3 all day. Plan your journey in advance and track your Metro train in real time with the Pop app. Search ‘Pop Nexus’ in the Play Store or the App Store.

By rail 

Mainline rail connections to Newcastle upon Tyne arrive at Central Station.

By bus

Hatton Gallery is a five minute walk from Haymarket bus interchange which is served by numerous local bus services.The gallery is well signposted.

During the school holidays, kids go free! Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the bus when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. Learn more on the North East Combined Authority website.

By bicycle

There are bike racks available on King's Road.


By car 

Newcastle is easily accessible by road via the A1 from the north and south and the A69 from the west. 


Car parking

There is no public parking on site.

The nearest car park is on Claremont Road, approximately a six-minute walk to the gallery. 

Newcastle City Council car parks use cash, card or the PayByPhone app for car park payments. Please do not use any QR code displayed in the car park to pay for parking.

The nearest NCP car parks are: 

John Dobson Street (NE1 8HL)
New Bridge Street (NE1 8AB) 
Carliol Square (NE1 6UL)

The Great North Museum: Hancock has four parking spaces for Blue Badge holders which can be used by Hatton Gallery visitors. We will do our best to accommodate you in our private staff car park if all the Blue Badge spaces are in use. Please ask at the Great North Museum: Hancock Welcome Desk or call (0191) 208 6765.

There is a coach drop off point on Claremont Road (B1318), to the left side of the Great North Museum: Hancock building.  

The nearest coach park is at Ord Street car park, near the Utilita Arena. Please call (0191) 261 5103 for more information.
