About

Keep your teens and pre-teens busy this summer with our five-day art schools at the Laing.

Participants will work with a professional arts educator to experiment with a variety of materials and create a portfolio of paintings, illustrations and 3D artwork. They will have the chance to browse the gallery and, using the Laing’s broad collection as inspiration, explore and develop artistic skills and techniques.

Participants must bring a packed lunch each day.

Please note: The Art Summer School will take place at The Discovery Museum or Great North Museum: Hancock on Mondays. Venue will be confirmed on booking.

Each week of the art school is planned and led by a different artist facilitator (also a fully qualified secondary art teacher), so young people are more than welcome to get involved in more than one week and experiment in new and different ways of working.

This activity aims to be fully inclusive and anyone with additional needs is welcome. If you would like to have an informal conversation with a member of the learning team before attending then please contact the Laing learning team on learning@laingartgallery.org.uk.

Explore Level Arts Award

There is also the opportunity for participants to achieve the nationally accredited Bronze Level Arts Award, at an additional cost. More information on Arts Award.
